Did you know that on July 18th, 64 (that's "64" not "xx64"), a disastrous fire began in the city of Rome? The emperor Nero blamed it on the Christians and fiddled his heart out on the great stage. We'll commemorate this event the same way we do every year: by playing 4-square. Sunday, July 18th, from 1 to 3 at the corner of Summer and Craigie in Somerville.
In observation of this great nation's birthday, there will be no 4-Square this weekend. BUT we will be playing on Sunday, 7/11, at the corner of Summer and Craigie in Somerville, from 1 to 3. Due to some logistical errors by the Summer 4-Square intern, I won't be around to remind you all about the 7/11 game, so consider this your FINAL WARNING.
Okay, with highs in the low 70s and 347% chance of rain you could be forgiven for thinking that Summer hasn't started yet. And some smart guy is going to point out that it hasn't because the solstice is actually the blah blah blah.
Here's the important thing: I'm the Director of Summer. Summer starts when I tell it to. And I tell it to start this Sunday, the 20th of June. We'll be playing from 1 to 3 at the corner of Summer and Craigie Somerville. You got that, Summer?
p.s. Yes, Sunday the 20th. My intern made a mistake in the first e-mail.
I want to take a moment to introduce you to our Director of Summer Programs, Amos Worth. Amos has been a member of Squarefour for several years, and his appetite for four square action knows not the bounds of winter gymnasiums. He will offer, organize and administer casual drop-in style games throughout the summer for members and non-members alike.
It's important to note that summer is hot. Damned hot. So hot, in fact, that many people can't bear to wear clothing. Then take a minute to enjoy (and consider buying a copy of) the Cambridge Uncovered semi-nude calendar that has just gone on sale again for Sep 2010. In it you will find Squarefour's top players and even a world champion rampaging the court in nothing but their birthday suits. What better way to start the summer.
