The New Crop of Champions

The Maine Youth Four Square Tournament took place in the Portland, ME, area just last week. Hailed as New England’s first youth four square tournament, and sponsored by 97.9 Radio, Jet Video, and the Portland Pirates, this program is reported to be an awesome success. Don't miss the excellent video of the day unfolding.

This is especially interesting because one of our annual junior competitors, Matt Fishbein, took second place in the tournament. If you remember, Matt was preparing a regulation four square court in his house. We heard they raise 'em tough in Maine, but this guy is hard core and the reigning world champ had better watch out.

Hello, Porter Square

We'll have one of our street teams in Porter Square today, Oct 7, from 6-7PM. Porter's infamous crosswalk plaza needs a green injection - since the developers couldn't figure out how to do it, we'll add our bright green shirts to the scenery for an hour instead.

Another shot at four square's history...

Dear Sean, I was reading the blog of a local upcycling carpentry company here in Cleveland, Ohio. "Piece of Cleveland" salvages lumber from razed buildings and creates new furniture. The former Stanard Elementary School was one. The Stanard site is now a big community garden. Some of those old bricks now grace my garden walkways. It has been rumored that our beloved game of four square was born on that playground. Could you confirm or correct that notion?

Strategic Planning Meeting Notes

Here are the notes from our Strategic Planning Meeting from Sep 21, 2010. I'm posting them up here for league members and other interested individuals to read and comment on. You'll also find these on the Facebook group as a discussion topic.

There were five sections that included broadening league membership and diversity, communicating to members in more useful ways, offering more features, tightening our social scene, and expanding leadership.

Login to Squarefour with Facebook Connect

Squarefour.org is a sick resource for four square players from all over the world. We know it because we get so many questions a week about this rule or that. In an effort to bridge the gap between our pile of game information and the greater social network that is the lifeblood of online community building, we've taken a big leap by implementing Facebook Connect here on Squarefour.
