For ten years running, the great people at the Lakes Environmental Association in snowy Bridgton, ME, will host the annual 2014 Four Square World Championships, on Saturday, Feb 28, 2015, at 5:00PM at Bridgton Academy* (directions | map).
Entrance to the Champs is open to the public so expect people of all shapes, sizes and stature in attendance. Competitors will battle for the greatest four square title in the world. Entrants will be divided into three divisions based on age, and there will be no custom rules allowed.
Chris Glasser was awarded the Men's Four Square World Championship title on Feb 28, 2009. This is the first time in the five year history of the world champs that the men's title has come home to the Boston area. Chris, currently from Somerville, MA, yet clearly holding some affiliation with Louisville, is pictured here with his towering golden trophy.
The rumor has just been confirmed that Dana Ostberg, the world's first and second women's world champion of four square will be returning to Bridgton, ME, on Feb 28, 2009, for another shot at the title. Ostberg, now hailing from Baltimore, MD, took home both the 2005 and 2006 women's title in the two first years of the world championships and has been rivaled by only Justine Petrillo of Cambridge, MA, who holds the women's titles from 2007 and 2008.
Please leave your gasoline at home because we anticipate some sparks.
This is just a friendly note to let you all know that we will be at the Four Square World Championships on Feb 28, 2009. To all the good folks in Bridgton, the great people of Portland, all of the UCONN four square team, the barbarians of the north in Newfoundland, and all the citizens of the great nations attending the championships - take a good, hard look at the fiercest competition you'll ever face. See you there.
