spiking
So, I looked over the offical rules here, and I'm wondering - if you don't play "underhand" rules, isn't it incredibly easy to spike the ball and make it virtually impossible for people to return?

First off, I generally regard spiking as vulgar and uncouth and only makes a grown man look like an ape. I think there are more elegant ways to win a round rather than by brute force.
Technically speaking, our space is small and even the most modest of spikes tend to hit the wall and come back into play. We allow people to play off the walls, but not off people.
And believe it or not, more than half the spikes get the spiker out, since they don't have the control to spike the ball into someone elses square.
Spiking is part of the game, and not a very useful part. It can make your opponents cower in fear, but that only lasts as long as it takes to get you out, which won't be too much longer.
Best move I ever saw was a someone set up a spike, the opponent runs back to hit the spike back if he can, then the "spiker" lets the ball fall within inches of the ground before giving it a small tap into the opponents sqaure. The opponent tries to rush back towards the ball in time, but its too late.
We play spikes but with no "carry" allowed it must be a hit not a full swing slam
in the Chinese way we do fast low balls instead of spiking cause spiking is not allowed
How i play is server cannot spike-serve ball.
