In 1790, the first patent in U.S. history was issued to Samuel Hopkins of the great state of Vermont.* In honor this momentous occasion, we'll be playing 4-square this Sunday, 8/1, at the corner of Summer and Craigie in Somerville, from 1 to 3.

*If anyone can explain to me how a man in Pittsford, VT, got the first patent in U.S. history when Vermont didn't become a state until 1791, drop me a line.
